English is very important language. Not only for the senior high school students, but now it is also very important to be taught to the junior high school students because we absorb and develop science technology, art, and culture, it is necessary for us to learn English. In order to make English more enjoyable and easier, the teachers should give good technique in teaching and learning process.
Therefore, in this study the researcher wants to describe the techniques and teaching English at SMP Islam Pakis Malang. This study was conducted to describe the teacher qualification, teaching techniques, teaching preparation, the instructional media, the evaluation conducted by the English teacher an the students achievement.
The subject of this study included the English teacher and the second year students of SMP Islam Pakis Malang. The data were obtained by using interview, observation, questionaire, and documentation. The data from the interview and observation were presented in a discriptive form. And the data from the documentation were presented in a descriptive form.
The finding of this study, indicate that the teacher qualification is a good because he always follow the seminar and workshop about the teaching English and he graduated of first grade (S1) program English Department Of Islamic University of Malang. The teaching techniques used by the teacher are explanation, role playing, group work, exercise and discussion. The teacher used teacher preparation although the teacher does not always make a lesson plan. The instructional media the teacher used are realia things, picture in the book, magazine and newspaper, and tape recorder. The evaluation the teacher used giving test, homework and students participation. The students achievement used formatif test, midle test and final test.
Finally based on the finding above, it suggested for the teacher he has to improve which quality of the teaching English by using various methods and techniques in teaching. The main idea for the teacher is, he has to change the teaching strategy or his teaching way, and also he has to be more creative teacher. The last suggestion for students, they have to study hard, joint a study club, course, or active English program, and also try to buy a dictionary.
