Australia’s biggest university kicks off two weeks of graduation ceremonies, celebrating student success. More than 5,000 students and 20,000 visitors are expected on the University’s Clayton campus.
Celebrations kick off on Monday morning (11am-12.30pm) when 252 Monash Business School students will don gowns and mortar boards to pick up their degrees, while another 310 will attend the afternoon graduation ceremony.
Students and some speakers will be available for media interviews across the two weeks of graduations.
Speakers include:

- Australia’s Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel
- CEO of the Gardiner Dairy Foundation Mary Harney
- World-leading neuroscientist Professor Lyn Beazley
- Internationally renowned oncologists, Associate Professor Nathan Cherny and Dr Ranjana Srivastava
- Chair of EPA Victoria, Cheryl Batagol
- Principal of Templestowe College Peter Hutton
- Foxtel’s Deanne Weir
- World expert in Pharmacy, Professor Robert Blouin
- Football to boardroom, Monash blues legend and former Principal of Carey Baptist School, Phil De Young
- BlueScope’s Chief Information Security Officer Catherine Buhler
- Australian Red Cross National Philanthropy Executive Anita Pahor
- MD of Franklin Templeton Investments and Deputy Chair Infrastructure Australia Maria Wilton
- Monash academic, author and social commentator Dr Susan Carland
President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, said the graduation period was an opportunity for the University community to celebrate the achievements of Monash students as they head into their future careers.
“Graduation ceremonies recognise the years of preparation and endeavour Monash students have undertaken to complete their studies,” Professor Gardner said.
“Upon graduating, our students become part of a community of more than 340,000 Monash alumni now living in 140 different countries worldwide. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that accomplishment with them.”
To further inspire new graduates, Monash is running a best mortar board throw photo challenge, where students will share their mortar board throw photo taken on the day on Instagram, using the hashtag #hatsoffmonash.
