The Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) signed a Technical Academic Agreement (TAA) in July 2012 with Syiah Kuala University. This University is located in Banda Aceh where many precious lives were lost from the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake, resulting in the Indian Ocean tsunami. The GSIR faculty members are hoping enthusiastically to help the area with its smooth and swift recovery through their academic services.
Along with the conclusion of this TAA, a GSIR faculty member, Prof. Koji Kotani was dispatched to Syiah Kuala. He was invited as a guest lecturer to offer an intensive lecture series to 18 graduate students on the topic of “Economics of Natural Resources and Environment” during the period of July 16 through 21.
The TAA itself stipulates a Linkage Program with Syiah Kuala, under the umbrella of the Indonesia’s national project, “PHRDP (Professional Human Resource Development Project).” In the linkage program, students who are Indonesian government employees come to IUJ after completing their first year in their host university. They will take second-year courses at IUJ and receive thesis writing supervision from the IUJ faculty members. Syiah Kuala University is IUJ’s 4th partner university after the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, and Padjadjaran University.
